Get an Award for your Business' Recycling and Waste Prevention EffortsThe Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) is administered by the California Integrated Waste Management Board. WRAP provides an opportunity for California businesses to gain public recognition for their outstanding waste reduction efforts and lets the community know your business takes waste reduction seriously. WRAP also provides businesses with examples of successful waste reduction techniques, which they may adopt as their own.
All businesses and private nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply for an annual WRAP award. Each business will be evaluated individually based upon its own accomplishments. Award winners receive authorization to use the WRAP winner logo with their products, advertising, and business websites to publicize waste reduction efforts.
In an effort to conserve resources and make it easier and faster to apply, the application is available as an online, fillable form. For more information, visit www.ciwmb.ca.gov/WRAP or call the City of San Dimas' Environmental Coordinator at (909)394-6244.
Applications are due May 31, 2008, so apply now for the 2008 WRAP Awards!

Abandoned Shopping Cart Hotline Abandoned shopping carts pose a nuisance and a safety hazard in the community. They also contribute to a sense of visual blight. At a cost of approximately $100 each, businesses must pick up the tab for the lost carts. A cost that could get passed on to you the customer. You can help keep the City of San Dimas beautiful by keeping our streets and neighborhoods free of abandoned shopping carts.
If you see a stray shopping cart you should contact the City's cart retrieval hotline at (909) 394-6283. Please be prepared to report the location (exact street address or nearest cross streets) of the shopping cart and the store to which it belongs.

San Dimas Relay For Life"Relay For Life" is a fun-filled overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer in our community. At the event, we celebrate survivors and raise money to help the American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer and empower individuals to fight back. Teams of people will gather at Horsethief Canyon Park and take turns walking laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track for a 24 hour period.
"Relay for Life" gives you the power to help in the fight against cancer. By joining together as volunteers and donors, our efforts help the American Cancer Society strive toward a future where cancer doesn't take the lives of our friends and family.
Sign up today to become a part of the Relay phenomenon. Together we will fuel the work - and the hope - that can help make a cancer-free future a reality.
The event starts on Saturday June 7th at 9am and concludes Sunday June 8th at 9am. For further information contact Kevin at (909) 282-9157.

CodeRED Emergency Notification System The City of San Dimas has contracted with Emergency Communications Network, Inc. for its "CodeRED" high-speed telephone emergency notification service. The CodeRED system gives City Officials the ability to notify City residents by telephone about emergency situations or critical community alerts. The CodeRED system is capable of contacting specific targeted areas or the entire City at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour. The CodeRED system will only be used when situations arise that the community should be aware of (i.e. severe weather, wildfire, water main breaks, alerts concerning a missing child or adult, road closings, law enforcement emergencies and hazardous material spills).
How does CodeRED work? CodeRED delivers the message through a high-speed telephone calling system to a phone number registered in the system. City staff will select a "call area" and the phone numbers will be matched up electronically to the addresses. A pre-recorded message will be sent out via the telephone with information about the situation and instructions. You will see the phone number 866-419-5000 appear on your caller ID. If you missed the call, you can call the number back to listen to the pre-recorded message.
How do I make sure that I am notified? Initially, the City will use telephone company records to create its notification list. However, residents should not assume they are in the system. You should register online, particularly if you have moved or changed your phone number in the last year or if you prefer to be contacted on your cell or business phone.
Registration is also available by calling City Hall at 909-394-6218 during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. You will need to provide your first and last name, physical street address (no P.O. Boxes), city, state, zip code, primary phone number and alternate phone numbers.
