Southern California Edison (SCE) will begin an aggressive replacement program for their existing steel street lights poles. The steel poles were installed over 40 years ago and are approaching the end of their service life. Periodically, infrastructure needs updating and replacing to continue providing service. SCE is proactively replacing these steel street light poles with new concrete/marbelite street light poles which are similar to those already installed in various neighborhoods in the City.
SCE and its contractors have identified approximately 372 of these steel street light poles to be replaced throughout the City. There are 14 locations or clusters of residential neighborhoods that will be impacted.
The work to replace these poles is anticipated to take approximately three (3) to four (4) weeks to complete. In order to maintain the City's high standard of work, this project will require full time inspection from the City due to the high volume of work to be performed in such a short period of time. The work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 and is anticipated to be completed by December 21, 2017.
SCE will make the necessary accommodations to ensure the street lights in the area are not affected unless the new street light has to be installed in the same location of the existing street light being replaced. In such a case, the street light being replaced and possibly a few others in the area may be de-energized for up to three (3) days. No electrical outage to any resident or business is anticipated for this work.
SCE will notify those in affected areas. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact SCE directly at (714) 796-9869 or the City's Department of Public Works at (909) 394-6240.
