An excellent year of adventure is coming as the City of San Dimas celebrates FIFTY YEARS as an incorporated City. From the shores of Bonelli Park, to the historic downtown, to the rolling foothills, San Dimas has remained an incredible city and a superb place to live.
"San Dimas, 1960- 2010 An Excellent Adventure" is the theme for this year's menu of events. The 50th Anniversary Committee has been working diligently to ensure that this is a year to remember.
In the late 1950's, as nearby cities moved to annex unincorporated portions of Los Angeles County that surrounded what is now present-day San Dimas, a group of San Dimas residents know as the Founders Committee, led an effort to incorporate San Dimas as its own City. In 1960, residents voted in favor of incorporation and also voted for the first City Council. The members of that first council were Stanley Plummer, Mayor; Ted Glauthier, Mayor Pro-tem; G. Francis Harbin, Lloyd Rouse and Harry Whipple comprised the remainder of the City Council.
Since its incorporation on June 28, 1960 San Dimas has grown from a town of 7,500 to a suburban City of over 34,900 residents. San Dimas is known for its great sense of community togetherness and involvement. So please join in on all the celebration and fun. There will be something for everyone! This webpage will feature postings about all sanctioned events and activities.
The City of San Dimas encourages all organizations to submit their 2010 special events and activities for 50th Anniversary Sanctioning. Any event occurring in 2010 which is representative of some aspect of historic or contemporary San Dimas may be submitted for sanctioning. Events should emphasize heritage, culture or community while simultaneously commemorating 50 years of cityhood.
Apply to make your event an Official City of San Dimas 50th Anniversary Sanctioned Event and become eligible for use of the official logo, use of an event banner, event listing on the 50th Anniversary website, promotion opportunities, and an official 50th Anniversary event certificate!

The City of San Dimas continued its year-long celebration of the 50th Anniversary of incorporation with an all-day "Birthday BBQ" on August 7. The festivities included fun, food and entertainment beginning in the early afternoon and continuing through the evening. One of the highlights of the day was the opening of the time capsule which was placed into Civic Center Plaza during the original construction in 1969. The time capsule was opened by Mayor Morris and the City Council with the help of City Manager, Blaine Michaelis. Inside were various mementos of the era including many photos, lists of various civic organization memberships; Meeting the Challenge to Change 1969--a report to the people of San Dimas; a photo of Ronald Reagan, Governor of California; and various photos and campaign materials from the Nixon/Agnew presidential campaign in 1968. Click here to see a listing of all the items that were in the time capsule. If you are interested in viewing any of these items, please contact the Historical Society at (909) 592-1190. The items are currently at the Historical Society Museum at the Walker House. However, beginning December 1, 2010 the contents will be returned to the time capsule and again placed at Civic Center Plaza.
