The Community Development Department's program objectives are to develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive land use plan, land development code, enforce the City's Building Codes and Municipal Codes, to ensure an accessible community. The Department is responsible for implementing City Council policies related to planning and managing the City's growth, matching development with service demands, and ensuring that new development is attractive, durable, and designed and constructed in a way which protects public health and safety.

The department strives to provide customers with personal attention, accurate information, and timely solutions in a manner that instills public trust and confidence while exceeding service expectations. Through proactive enforcement of preservation and development codes, we strive to maintain the highest quality of life for residents, the business community and visitors.

The Community Development Department is responsible for long range planning; regional planning and coordination; environmental review of projects; development review, analysis, and compliance, historic preservation; economic development; and planning and implementing programs to enhance and maintain open space.

In addition, the Housing Section is part of the Community Development Department.  The City of San Dimas is committed to providing quality housing programs that enhance and strengthen our community. Our mission is to address the needs of low and moderate-income residents, improve and expand the City's housing stock, and encourage the physical and economic revitalization of the City's neighborhoods. The City strives to form effective partnerships to maximize social and economic opportunities to serve the citizens of San Dimas.
