The Clean Water Act of 1987 established requirements for storm water discharges under the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program. The goals of the permit include protecting the beneficial uses of water bodies and reducing stormwater pollution.
Planning and Land Development is subject to these requirements (Ord. 1231 § 1, 2014). The Preliminary Project Questionnaire Checklist (link below) may be used to help determine the requirments for projects, for both during construction and post-construction to address stormwater protection.
If LID (Low Impact Development) is required, it must:
All projects must implement stormwater BMPs (Best Management Practices) during construction to prevent runoff from the site.
Additionally, projects greater that 1-acre are subject to the Construction General Permit Order 2009-0009-DWQ and any amendment, revision or reissuance thereof.
